Metal Church For Our Congregation
Last year I moved to my current location and started my new life in my new hometown. After a couple of months I started to settle down in my new house, my new routine.
I work as a bookkeeper so it has never been a problem for me to meet new people, however I always preferred to form personal contacts outside work commitments. I go to church every week and it has been an important part of my life since my teens. It is not the first relocation for me so it has been sort of customary for me to establish contacts with the community by way of religion.
Our congregation is not too big, the town is small anyway, so it can only be expected. There are other religions observed, as well, so the tiny Methodist church never was an impressive landmark. In all practicality, it should have been re-built long ago but nobody had the money or the resolution to see it through.
Then something happened that changed this situation. Two weeks ago there was a tornado that ripped apart our church building. It was not a major event, far from it, the incident was probably closer to an everyday thunderstorm, but our building could not withstand the force with which it hit our area.
So our small community was left without a place to congregate. We arranged an informal meeting to discuss our options. Five of us met at a nearby restaurant and started a brainstorming. We needed to replace our church building as soon as possible, and we had to do it as cheap as possible. Our pastor was all for a metal building as he already had experience with those. Metal buildings can withstand hurricanes and earthquakes, so he said, and they are less susceptible to fire so safety is definitely achieved. Some metal building companies have their own in-house design team so you can have your metal building designed to your exact needs. Steel parts are getting so versatile that all needs and wishes can be fulfilled. With pre-fabricated, pre-punched, pre-drilled pieces construction and assembly can be performed at affordable prices and less time consumption.
Some people had doubts over environmental issues but as they say, steel buildings are constructed with the use of up to 60% recycled steel and 100% recyclable, and also more energy efficient. Energy Star rated metal buildings panels are available and also LEED point qualification.
It has definitely been decided then, that a pre-designed, pre-fabricated steel building can be a valid solution for our growing need for a place to congregate. With the versatility offered we can have our new metal church designed to fill our needs.

![]() Structural Steel Semirigid Connections: Theory, Design, and Software (New Directions in Civil Engineering) List Price: Sale Price: $175.95 You save: $9.00 (5%) Eligible for free shipping!Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours See Reviews For This Product DescriptionAlthough the semirigidity concept was introduced many years ago, steel structures are usually designed by assuming that beam-to-column joints are either pinned or rigid. Theses assumptions allow a great simplification in structural analysis and design-but they neglect the true behavior of joints. The economic and structural benefits of semirigid joints are well known and much has been written about their use in braced frames. However, they are seldom used by designers, because most semirigid connections have highly nonlinear behavior, so that the analysis and design of frames using them is difficult. In fact, the design problem becomes more difficult as soon as the true rotational behavior of beam-to-column joints is accounted for-the design problem requires many attempts to achieve a safe and economical solution.Structural Steel Semirigid Connections provides a comprehensive source of information on the design of semirigid frames, up to the complete detailing of beam-to-column connections, and focuses on the prediction of the moment-rotation curve of connections. This is the first work that contains procedures for predicting the connection plastic rotation supply-necessary for performing the local ductility control in nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. Extensive numerical examples clarify the practical application of the theoretical background. This exhaustive reference and the awareness it provides of the influence of joint rotational behavior on the elastic and inelastic responses of structures will greatly benefit researchers, professionals, and specification writing bodies devoted to structural steel.
